PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable speed controller of a continuously variable transmission capable of preventing the idle-throttling of an engine caused by the fixing of gear ratio. SOLUTION: A CVT control unit 9 suppresses the rise of unnecessary engine rotational speed Ne by releasing the fixing of the gear ratio and switching a variable speed mode to a normal variable speed mode when an engine rotational speed Ne reaches the maximum output rotational speed Nepmax of the engine during traveling in a gear ratio fixed mode.
