<p>Production of a liquid concentrate comprising 10-80 wt.% of a vinylpyrrolidone/2-acrylamido-2-methylpropanesulfonate-type copolymer, 20-90 wt.% emulsifier and/or solvent and 0-30 wt.% water comprises radically polymerizing the corresponding monomers in an inert medium, adding a high-boiling solvent and/or an emulsifier and optionally water, and distilling off the polymerization medium. Production of a liquid concentrate comprising 10-80 wt.% of a copolymer comprising 1-50 wt.% repeat units of formula (I), 49.99-98.99 wt.% repeat units of formula (II) and 0.01-8 wt.% crosslinking structures derived from monomers with at least two olefinic double bonds, water comprises radically polymerizing the corresponding monomers in an inert medium, adding a high-boiling solvent and/or an emulsifier and optionally water, and removing the polymerization medium, optionally at subatmospheric pressure and optionally at a temperature above room temperature. The b.pt. of the solvent is at least 10 [deg]C above that of the polymerization medium.
