PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To record video data of a plurality of different formats into a single disk-like recording medium mixedly so as to be continuously reproducible. SOLUTION: A clip consists of the time sequentially related video data, audio data, auxiliary AV data and time sequential meta-data. The data are managed by a directory structure, and the data constituting the clip are stored to the clip directory together under a directory CLPR. When the format of the video data is changed, for instance, during the recording of the clip, the clip is divided at the changed position, and the clip directories are prepared anew to produce the new clip. The coexistence of the formats among the clip directories is permitted. The coexistence of the formats in a file stored in the clip directory is not permitted. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
