PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering column supporting apparatus for setting a load appropriately for displacing the steering column of a vehicle to the forward of the vehicle relative to a vehicle body in vehicle collision, or the like. SOLUTION: In the supporting apparatus, a cutout 10 for opening at the rear of the vehicle is formed at a column bracket 5 for retaining a steering column, upper/lower support plates 22, 23 are interlocked in one piece by a drum section 21 in a slide 20, and a bending section 24 inclined downward is formed at lower portion of the upper support plate 22. When the drum section 21 is fitted into the cutout 10, the bending section 24 is deflected and the upper/lower support plates 22, 23 elastically pinch an end edge 11 of the cutout 10, a bolt 30 for inserting a hollow section 25 of the drum section 21 upward is screwed into the car body, and the column bracket 5 is mounted to the vehicle body.
