PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a conveyance roller of sufficiently high seal strength of a cover tube at an end part of the roller, high accuracy in deflection, surface roughness and the like, and high L/D ratio. SOLUTION: The conveyance roller to convey an article comprises a long shaft body of substantially circular outer circumference and high hardness, a cover tube of precise surface roughness to cover an outer surface of the shaft body, and a seal packing to seal a space between the outer surface of the shaft body and an inner surface of the cover tube at an end part of the shaft body. The shaft body is hollow, and a lightweight shell of high hardness may be integrally fitted to the outer surface of the shaft body. An initial seal to seal a space between the outer surface of the shaft body and the inner surface of the cover tube may be provided on the shaft body closer to the end part side than the seal packing.
