WATER-INSOLUBLE TANNIN DERIVATIVE AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a tannin derivative widening the uses of tannin having excellent properties, insoluble in water and enhancing the solubility in various kinds of solvents, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The tannin is reacted with at least one kind of alkylating agent selected from the group consisting of a dialkylsulfonic ester, an acid anhydride, an acid chloride and an alkyl halide to provide a molecular structure in which at least a part of hydroxy groups contained in the tannin molecule are substituted with alkyl ether groups or alkyl ester groups.
