The method of the invention for preserving mammalian organs comprises the steps of: withdrawing water from an organ having a physiologically normal water content through the vascular system in the organ, thereby to remove at least about 10%, preferably at least about 25% of water by weight based on the total weight of the organ before dehydration; immersing said organ in an inert medium; and maintaining said organ at a chill temperature. |
