PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a skin protecting agent which prevents hand roughness and chapped skin of a cosmetician/hairdresser caused by works using a shampoo, and the like, and skin irritation. SOLUTION: This skin protecting agent comprises a monovalent metal and/or a divalent metal and a water-soluble substance consisting of a hydroxy acid, a chelate-forming substance, a polysaccharide carboxylic acid and a methyl vinyl ether-maleic anhydride copolymer.
