The method of reducing brake noise involves applying an electric voltage to an exciting piezo element, in the region of the brake system, which is excited to a counter-oscillation. The piezo element causes a change in the pressure of the brake fluid and this causes a change in the characteristic or resonance frequency of the brake system. Alternatively the brake seat (4) may be tensioned by the piezo element and its characteristic frequency changed. Independent claims also cover apparatus for carrying out the method.
