LUBRICANT FOR WATER-MISCIBLE METAL WORKING OIL

A lubricant for water-miscible metal-working oils which comprises a polyether which is represented by the following general formula (1) and has an HLB of 6.1 to 16.0 and a weight-average molecular weight of 500 to 10,000; and a water-miscible metal working oil containing the lubricant. They have excellent lubricity in application not only to steel materials but to plastic metals such as aluminum. Even when diluted with water, they are stable and do not separate into phases. R<1>[{(OCH2CH2CH2CH2)m/(OA<1>)n}(OA<2>)p-OH]q (1) (In the formula, R<1> represents a C1-24 residue; A<1> and A<2> each represents C2-4 alkylene; m is an integer of 1 or larger; n and p each is an integer of 0 or larger; q is an integer of 1 to 6; and {(OCH2CH2CH2CH2)m/(OA<1>)n} means random bonding when n is an integer of 1 or larger.)
