Apparatus and method for receiving E-mail

The apparatus has a memory which stores email. A mail retriever which retrieves email data from a mail server and stores the email data in the memory. A memory usage rate calculator which calculates a usage rate of the memory. A moderator determines whether the calculated usage rate is equal to a threshold value, at which the memory has a risk of an overflow if more email data is to be retrieved. A retrieval controller prohibits the mail retriever from retrieving e-mail when the moderator determines that the usage rate is equal to the threshold value, and permits the mail retriever to retrieve the e- mail when the moderator determines that the usage rate is less than the threshold value. An independent claim is included for an email reception method.
