PURPOSE: A method and apparatus for inspecting a workpiece for a machine tool is provided to improve productivity by quickly determining the badness of the workpiece without separating the workpiece from the machine tool. CONSTITUTION: In a machine tool including an input unit(1) and a control unit(3) for controlling a machining unit(2), a converting unit(5) receives feed signals from servo motor drivers(21,22), and converts the feed signals into digital signals. The control unit includes a standard shape data memory(4) for storing standard shape data about a workpiece, a real shape data generating unit(6) for generating real shape data, a real shape data memory(7) for storing real shape data, and a comparator(8) for comparing real shape data with standard shape data.
