In the production of a filter material, especially in the form of a deep filter layer with a predetermined number of natural fibers, e.g. of cellulose material, and with a content of polysaccharides that are toxic or favor toxicity and are present in a suspension before this is converted to the finished filter material, the novelty is that each polysaccharide is converted to an end product that is non-toxic or less toxic by adding a specific enzyme. An independent claim is also included for the filter material produced by adding the specific enzymes in this way.
