PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide gasoline having excellent operability and startability without lowering octane number even when a heavy fraction is reduced. SOLUTION: This gasoline is composed of a hydrocarbon and ETBE (ethyl tert-butyl ether) and has≥89.0 research octane number,≤10 mass ppm of sulfur content and (1) 1-30 vol.% of ETBE content, (2) 23-38 vol.% of E70 when the Reid vapor pressure is≥45 to <65 kPa and 30-40 vol.% of E70 when the Reid vapor pressure is 65-93 kPa, (3) 90 vol.%≤E150, (4) 97 vol.%≤E180 and (5)≤190°C distillation end point. Since the amount of a base material containing the heavy fraction adversely affecting an exhaust gas can be reduced by formulating the ETBE with the gasoline, not only the environmental load is reduced but also operability is good.
