PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lapping method of the surface facing the medium of a thin film magnetic head, which can prevent the thin film magnetic head and a hard disk from crashing and float the thin film magnetic head. SOLUTION: The thin film magnetic head 1 provided with a reproducing head part (magnetoresistive element) 11. a recording head part (induction electromagnetic transduction element) 12, and a heater 17 heated by energizing is formed on a mount 2, the surface S facing the medium of the thin film magnetic head 1 is ground while energizing the heater 17 or the recording head part 12.
