PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elevator embodied at low cost in a simple structure equipped with a smoke and flame shutoff function capable of precluding generation of a gap despite occurrence of a fire while it does not require any proprietary component parts for shutting off the smoke and fire and a margin for opening and closing the elevator doors is reserved. SOLUTION: The elevator is equipped with a three-side frame 11 to form a doorway 12 at each elevator hall of a building floor and elevator doors 13 and 14 positioned on the rear side of the frame 11 and opening and closing the doorway 12. The arrangement further includes a threshold 15 which is set inclining so that part of the front faces of the doors 13 and 14 is in tight attachment to the frame 11 when the opening/closing operation of the elevator doors 13 and 14 is guided and the doors 13 and 14 are closing the doorway 12, and when the doors 13 and 14 are opening the doorway 12, the front faces of the doors 13 and 14 separate from the frame 11.
