PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detergent and a washing method capable of effectively removing scale on a hydrophilic film utilized for an anti-fog glass, an anti-fog mirror and the like, and adherent contaminants which provide water repellency to a coating film. SOLUTION: The detergent is an aqueous detergent which can remove adherent contaminants composed of a silicon oxide compound with binding properties adhered to a hydrophilic coating film and adherent contaminants which provide water repellency to a coating film. The detergent comprises at least an oxidizing agent capable of oxidatively decomposing the silicon oxide compound with binding properties, and optionally an anionic surfactant, a water soluble organic solvent, a basic substance and a metal chelate.
