PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coin handler capable of stably receiving and dispensing coins without failing to detect coins remaining on a tray part. SOLUTION: The coin handler 100 for handling coins comprises the tray part 110 for temporarily retaining coins; a coin sensing part 113 for sensing coins retained on the tray part 110; a conveying part 120 for conveying the coins to the tray part 110; and a controller 130 for controlling the drive of the conveying part 120. The tray part 110 has a shutter part 111 which controls the insertion or takeout of coins when closed. When the coins retained on the tray part 130 are not sensed by the coin sensing part 113, the control device 130 controls the drive of the conveying part 120 when holding the shutter part 111 closed.
