<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a line-of-sight detector for a vehicle driver which easily and surely registers the reference position of the face of the vehicle driver, specifies a face position inside a vehicle driver image picked up at every prescribed interval of time on the basis of the registered reference position and accurately and surely extracts an eye position from the specified face position. <P>SOLUTION: The controller of the line-of-sight detector for the vehicle driver captures a first image, for which the image inside a vehicle immediately before the driver sits on a driver's seat is picked up, to a storage device (step 104), captures a second image, for which the image of the driver sitting on the driver's seat is picked up, to the storage device (step 108), calculates the difference image of the first and second images (step 110), and registers an area equivalent to the calculated difference image as the reference position of the face of the driver (step 118). Then, the face and the eye are specified on the basis of the reference position of the face of the driver inside the image picked up by a camera after the point of time of registering the reference position (steps 120 and 122). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
