PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of separating 2-butanol from a tert-butanol/water mixture formed in decomposing tert-butanol (TBA) produced from an industrial 4C hydrocarbon mixture into isobutene and water. SOLUTION: First, a TBA-containing flow is added to the mixture to render its water concentration lower than the limiting concentration of the distillation boundary line connecting two azeotropes of TBA/water and SBA(sec-butanol)/water, and successively the resulting mixture is treated by distillation.
