PURPOSE: A character input system for a mobile terminal and the mobile terminal using the same are provided to dispose the minimum number of keys on a space-restricted terminal and smoothly input characters with the keys. CONSTITUTION: A key module(10) has five contact points. A key signal generator(20) connected to the key module(10) generates a key signal. A data generator(30) reads a key signal inputted from the key signal generator(20) and outputs corresponding data such as a character, a number, a symbol or control. A memory(50) connected to the data generator(30) stores data corresponding to a plurality of key signals outputted from the key signal generator(20). A display(40) displays data. A controller(60) receives data from the data generator(30) and displays it on the display unit(40), and controls an operation of a mobile terminal.
