PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image formation device which automatically recovers state worsening of a machine due to wrong operation by the operator in the middle of a maintenance operation, and can more quickly end a resumption operation after an interruption. SOLUTION: In the image formation device which has a separable ink cartridge, a sub tank, and a maintenance recovery mechanism for carrying out the maintenance operation, at the time when falling of the ink cartridge is detected in the middle of execution of the maintenance operation, the maintenance recovery mechanism stores a point where the maintenance operation is interrupted, and automatically carries out the maintenance operation from the interrupted point when the ink cartridge is set. At the time when falling of the ink cartridge is detected while the maintenance operation which influences the sub tank is being carried out, a maintenance operation to be carried out at the time of replacing the ink cartridge is executed when the ink cartridge is detected to be set after the interruption, and then the interrupted maintenance operation is carried out again.
