PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for controlling a bell sound of a mobile terminal are provided to allow a user to quickly convert a bell sound to a vibration or mute mode and reduce the number of times of key manipulation. CONSTITUTION: A sensor(101) detects an operation signal of a user. A signal combiner(102) changes X axis and Y axis signals with a different direction to signals with the same pattern to obtain a quantity of change of the signal. A high pass filter(103) removes a DC component of an output signal of the signal combiner(102). A debouncing unit(104) removes multiple peaks generated after the operation signal of the user. A state machine(105) senses an output signal of the debouncing unit(104) as an operation signal of the user, and then senses the next operation signal of the user to thereby judges whether the operation signal of the user is repeated by certain number of times regularly to control a bell sound of a mobile terminal.
