PURPOSE: A receiving speed detection device of a transmission system is provided to detect a speed of an input signal by detecting an error state of the input signal and a state of frame synchronization by using a characteristic of a line coding method. CONSTITUTION: A line interface unit(201) converts a received bipolar signal to a unipolar signal or the unipolar signal to the bipolar signal. A codec unit(202) encodes and decodes an output signal of the line interface unit. A synchronization detector(203) is used for detecting frame synchronization of the encoded signal. An error detector(205) is used for detecting an error of the encoded signal of the codec unit. A speed detector(206) is used for detecting a transmission speed of a received signal by using a synchronization result of the synchronization detector and an error state of the encoded signal of the error detector.
