PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To remove scale sticking to a billet which is fed in a hot forging press, automatically at a low cost and simply without interposing human aid and without requiring a descaling device using high-pressure water. SOLUTION: In the removing device of the scale on the material billet for hot forging, hammers 7 are opposed to end faces to be hot forged of the billet 2 which is heated and extracted and the acute part 12 of the tip of a chisel 8 attached to the hammer 7 is forced to uniformly strike the end face of the billet 2 at a short cycle. By allowing the billet 2 to butt against a stopper 6 by conveying the billet 2 with a conveying device 4, the air hammers 7 with the chisel the tip of which has an acute shape, attached in opposition to both end faces of the billet 2 in this stopper 6 part are respectively arranged so as to uniformly strike the end faces of the billet 2 at the striking speed of the short cycle of 1-2 time/s by relatively rotating the acute part 12 of the tip of the chisel 8.
