PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital camera in which color S/N ratio is improved, and miniaturization and the manufacturing cost reduction can be attained. SOLUTION: A CCD (charge-coupled device) 104 carries out 3-field transfer including Red, Green, Blue color compatible signals in each field at photographing of a still picture and attains reduction in electric charge amount flowing through a vertical transfer path at once resulting in that a saturation signal amount can be increased. Further, an image processing IC 110 carries out up to digital amplification with respect to a signal component (evaluation value) acquired in the image processing IC 110 in the case of monitoring drive as white balance processing, and in the case of succeeding image acquisition, the Red component is extracted from a first field, the Green component is extracted from a second filed, and the Blue component is extracted from a third field respectively. In an image capturing mode wherein an image is generated by 3 fields and a white balance is carried out under exposure time control on the basis of the white balance information obtained at the monitoring drive.
