PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retardation film consisting of a liquid crystal layer aligned in a traverse direction other than the film feeding direction.

SOLUTION: This retardation film consists of either a lengthy and cured film-like liquid crystal layer or a cured liquid crystal layer continuously formed on a lengthy film substrate 5, and the liquid crystal layer is aligned in parallel in the traverse direction other than the longitudinal direction of the lengthy film.
