PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the structure of the yoke type MR head of a high reproducing output capable of highly accurately forming an MR element, and its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: In the yoke type MR head comprising an MR element in a yoke notch, a substrate in which a metal film, a nonmagnetic insulating film and an MR element are sequentially formed on the notch is used.
