PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize always obtaining an optical power as a target irrespective of the number of beams of a laser by suppressing the change of the power of a semiconductor laser by eliminating the loss of a drive voltage uncertain due to electric discharging. SOLUTION: This automatic optical power controller includes a clock generating means for generating a clock, a reference voltage setting means for generating a reference voltage of digital value of X bits for the optical power as a target, a first digital-analog conversion means for outputting a reference voltage of an analog in response to the digital value of the X bits, a comparing means for comparing the voltage of the optical power of the semiconductor laser with the reference voltage, up/down counting means for up/down counting in response to the output of the comparing means, and a second analog-digital conversion means for outputting the drive voltage of the analog in response to the counted value of the output of the up/down counting means.
