PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery charger capable of surely detecting whether a secondary battery such as a nickel-cadmium battery is at end of life or not. SOLUTION: The battery pack lifetime distinguishing device of the charger is provided with a battery voltage detecting means detecting battery voltage of the battery pack to be charged, a unit battery number detecting means detecting the number of unit batteries in the battery pack, and a battery pack lifetime distinguishing means distinguishing that the battery pack is at end of life when the battery voltage detected by the battery voltage detecting means is under a given lifetime distinction voltage in accordance with the number of the unit batteries.
