The input device transports a stack (1) of vertical sheets to a separating unit with an input roller (32). The transporting unit is pre-stressed towards the input manner in such a manner that the stack is pressed against this roller, e.g. by at least one spring, so that the sheets can be pulled off uniformly and reliably.
