PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic head which is used for a magnetic disk device to record and reproduce information to and from a recording medium and floats lower with respect to the recording medium. SOLUTION: A thin-film element 35a is formed at the air outflow end of a core slider 32 and a protective film 36 is formed on the thin-film element 35a. It is constituted so that a magnetoresistive element 84 is formed on the thin-film element 35a and a notched part 43a of a notched shape of a stepped surface is formed at the protective film 36 toward the air outflow end from the vicinity of the thin-film element 35 on the floating surface.
