<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus in which failure of a light emitting element can be judged readily by using the voltage level of a hold capacitor for automatic power control at the time of sample hold. <P>SOLUTION: In the image forming apparatus where a latent image is formed on a photosensitive body by controlling lighting/unlighting of a light emitting element based on image data and an image is formed on a transfer sheet using that latent image, its image forming means is provided with a sample hold type automatic power control means for sustaining the output light quantity of the light emitting element at a constant level, the sample hold type automatic power control means is provided with a section 30 for detecting the voltage level of a hold capacitor 31 for automatic power control at the time of sample hold, and failure of the light emitting element is judged using a voltage level detected at the voltage detecting section 30. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
