<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for effectively and efficiently detecting a color object in a digital image. <P>SOLUTION: This detection method comprises steps for: capturing a search image including the color object; capturing a model image of the color object; calculating a spatial color joint probability function (SCJPF) of the model image; generating a plurality of search windows in the area of the search image having a minimum number of colors for the object model image; computing the SCJPF of the respective search windows; evaluating the similarity degree between the model image and the SCJPF of a plurality of search windows; and designating the search windows, which have the similarity degree above a search threshold value to the model image SCJPF, as a detection target object. The model image SCJPF is a spacial relationship and a color distribution between colors, and the search window SCJPF is a spacial relationship and a color distribution between the colors of the search window. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
