<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pole type lighting device which can be used as a lamp non-lit detection function, a light compensation function and a function as a foot light during power failure, wherein the lamp non-lit detection function and the function as the foot light can be added to an existing pole, and which can be constituted relatively inexpensively. <P>SOLUTION: An illumination appliance 2 is supported at a desired part of the pole 1, an inspection port 4 is provided near the lower end of the pole, and an opening/closing lid 5 is openably supported at the inspection port. A control circuit 6 is provided inside of the inspection lid, and an auxiliary lamp 8 is provided on an inspection lid to be visible from outside. The control circuit has a timer function.
