OPTICAL ELEMENT AND OPTICAL SIGNAL I/O DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element and an optical signal I/O device applied with that optical element.

SOLUTION: The optical element 10 and the optical signal I/O device applied with that optical element comprise a substrate 11 of an n-type or p-type silicon based semiconductor, a doped region 25 doped with the opposite type to the substrate 11 on one surface thereof such that light reception and light emission take place, and a light emitting element part 20 and a light receiving element part 30 formed on one surface of the substrate 11 where the doped region 25 is formed while sharing the doped region. The optical element 10 incorporates a circuit having an amplification function and performs light emission or light reception selectively wherein the duration of the light emission and light reception is controlled easily.
