PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that an image projection device which makes display with definition higher than resolution characteristic of display elements by using a pixel shift technique can synchronize display elements, whose scanning directions are unilateral, only in one direction when shifting pixels in two dimensions although an image is scanned while pixel shifting is synchronized in the switching scanning direction of image frames of the display elements because of trouble such that images before and after being shifted appear to be continuous when displayed in a very short time wherein a pixel shifting element makes luminous flux shift in one direction. SOLUTION: The image display device makes a display with definition higher than the resolution characteristic of display elements by using the pixel shift technique. The scanning of a 1st pixel shifting element is carried out almost in synchronism with information update scanning in pixel column units from the X-axial right side of display elements which can be scanned in both two-dimensional directions. Redisplay is carried out from a pixel column where pixel shifting is completed, and then scanning of a 2nd pixel shift element is performed nearly in synchronism with information update scanning in pixel column units from the Y-axial top this time, after a specified time when all pixels are displayed.
