PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a operating method for an upper metal-die, which enables the upper metal-die to conduct a required process even if the distance of an elevating frame in place of a conventional upper die base is shorter, concerning an operating method for an upper metal-die used in a metal-die casting device producing a casting by pouring molten metal in a holding furnace into a horizontally split metal-mold, which consists of an upper die and a lower die, through a stoke. SOLUTION: The upper metal-die is brought into contact with a lower metal-die and separated therefrom with a metal-die opening/closing mechanism to which the upper metal-die is attached. Further, a space for taking out a core set or a product is formed between the upper metal-die and a lower metal-die by lifting the metal-die opening/closing mechanism and the upper metal-die.
