PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect various characteristics of an internal combustion engine, such as, an exhaust pressure, an exhaust temperature in a high accuracy. SOLUTION: A status detector of the internal combustion engine includes a supercharger 16 having a compressor 16a and a turbine 16b, an air flow meter 18 for acquiring an amount of intake air dm<SB>1</SB>/dt, an intake pressure sensor 22 for acquiring an intake pressure P3, a means for obtaining the rotational speed N<SB>tb</SB>of the compressor 16a and the turbine 16b based on the amount of intake air dm<SB>1</SB>/dt and the intake pressure P3 by using flow rate characteristics of the compressor 16a, a means for acquiring an amount of exhaust gas flowing through the turbine 16b, and a means for obtaining an exhaust gas pressure P4 and an exhaust gas temperature T4 based on the rotational speed N<SB>tb</SB>and the amount of the exhaust gas of the turbine 16b by using the flow rate characteristics of the turbine 16b.
