PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrifier capable of reducing the amount of ozone generation without causing charge irregularities in the electrifier used for an electrophotographic recording device or an electrostatic recording device etc. SOLUTION: In the electrifier, a plurality of sheets of discharge electrodes with a plurality of serrate protrusions arranged toward an image carrier are internally mounted on a shield plate having an opening part opposed to the freely rotatable image carrier and grid electrodes are disposed between the image carrier and the discharge electrodes. Therein, a pitch between the protrusions of the discharge electrodes located on the downstream side for the image carrier rotation direction is made narrower than the pitch between the protrusions of the discharge electrodes located on the upstream side for the image carrier rotation direction.
