The invention relates to the medicine, namely to the diagnostics, and may be used for the identification of the calculi in the common bile duct. The method comprises the endoscopic ultrasound examination of the common bile duct in the left lateral position of the patient. According to the invention, the location of the calculi is visualized, then the patient turns to the dorsal position. If the calculi shift upwards, they are referred to as cholesterol ones. If the calculi still lie at the same position or shift downwards, they are referred to as pigmented or calcified ones. The invention allows one to improve the precision of identifying the calculi in the common bile duct.
