PURPOSE: A method for confirming a data transfer rate is provided to confirm a transfer rate of audio and video data in the event of data streaming. CONSTITUTION: A client generates a transfer rate confirmation request packet including transfer rate delay time of zero and transmits the transfer rate confirmation request packet to a server(204). The client receives a test packet in response to the transfer rate confirmation request packet from the server(206). The client compares the size of the received test packet with the actual size of the test packet transmitted from the server(214). When the sizes are not identical to each other, the client re-sets the transfer rate delay time, generates a transfer rate confirmation request packet including the re-set transfer rate delay time and transmits the transfer rate confirmation request packet to the server(218,220). When the size of the received test packet is identical to the actual size of the test packet transmitted from the server, the client generates a completion packet and transmits the completion packet to the server(222).
