A housing for an airbag unit (4) in a vehicle has a cavity to accommodate a container of a gas generator and airbag. The housing has a base structure, and a cover (6) connected to it and facing the occupant of the vehicle in the installed state. At least one material weakening is constructed on the inner side of the cover and is so small that it is not visible from the cover side facing the passenger interior. The housing cover is additionally connected to the base structure of the housing by a perforation.
