PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a gear change shock from being caused by separation of gear change ratios of both automatic gear change mode and manual gear change mode when switching from the automatic gear change mode to the manual gear change mode in a continuously variable transmission system for a vehicle in which a continuously variable transmission mechanism is operated to switch from/to the automatic change gear mode to/from the manual change gear mode. SOLUTION: When switching from the automatic gear change mode to the manual gear change mode, correspondence between the operation position of a final operation element and the change gear ratio of the continuously variable transmission mechanism set by the operation position of the final operation element, is temporarily changed by the predetermined relation so that the gear change ratio set by the automatic gear change mode is made to correspond to the operation position of the final operation element at that time. Thereafter, serially, the correspondence relation between both the operation position and the change gear ratio is returned to the predetermined correspondence relation.
