<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dispersion compensating device capable of setting an optimum variance value for every wavelength and compensating the wavelength dependence of variance in an optical transmission line with high accuracy, and a wavelength division multiplex communication system using the dispersion compensating device. <P>SOLUTION: A WDM (wavelength division multiplexed) signal with a plurality of wavelengths multiplexed is inputted to one input port to be subjected to wavelength division. This dispersion compensating device has a wavelength selection optical switching means 30 for switching each divided wavelength line to an optional output port among a plurality of output ports and outputting the WDM signal, a plurality of dispersion compensating means 40<SB>1</SB>to 40<SB>n</SB>which are connected to each output port of the wavelength selection optical switching means and where respectively different dispersion compensation values are set, and a multiplexing means 50 for multiplexing a plurality of wavelengths which have been outputted by the plurality of dispersion compensating means and supplied to a plurality of input ports and outputting the WDM signal. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
