PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary angle detector which can precisely detect the rotary angle of a rotating shaft and which is inexpensive and is easy in the assembling work. SOLUTION: Two tile-like magnets 20 and 30 that are magnetized in parallel are provided at the opposite positions along the inner side surface of a yoke 10 which rotates with the rotation of the rotating shaft 3. A magnetic field direction detector 41 is provided at an approximately central position O of the sectional inner space of the yoke 10. The approximately further parallel magnetic field of the magnets 20 and 30 is generated around the magnetic field direction detector 41. The rotary angle of the rotating shaft 3 is detected, on the basis of an output signal of the magnetic field direction detector 41 which varies when the yoke 10 is rotated to vary the direction of the magnetic field interlinking the magnetic field direction detector 41.
