PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To gently rotate and erect a building column member having a short length or a long length from a horizontally laid position to a vertical position. SOLUTION: According to a column member erecting device, a rotating body 6 has a mounting stand 5 arranged at a lower end of a column member holding body 4 on which a lower end of a trunk 2 of the building column member 1 having the short length is mounted, and in order to rotate the rotating body 6 from the horizontal position to the vertical position, the column member holding body 4 is rotatably pivoted on a fixing portion 9 of a device main body 8 with a hinge pin 10. An expansion device 14 has a cushioning mechanism for absorbing an erection force of the building column member 1, generated when the center P of gravity of the short building column member 1 moves forward from the location of the hinge pin 10 as a support point of the rotating body 6. Then the expansion device 14 has its rod tip mounting portion 16a rotatably pivoted on a lower end of the rotating body 16 such that the column member holding body 4 is rotated to the horizontal position when a piston rod 16 is extended, and that the column member holding body 4 can be rotated and erected to the vertical position when the piston rod 16 is contracted. An expansion device main body 15 of the expansion device 14 is rotatably pivoted on a fixing body 21 arranged closer to an upper end of the column member holding body 4 than the fixing part 9.
