PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To grasp the existence of significant mail before displaying the contents of the electronic mail. SOLUTION: This electronic mail device such as a mobile telephone or a personal computer is provided with: a means which, when a received-mail list display request is submitted by a user, detects whether any character string for significant mail identification is present in the text of a piece of electronic mail included in a received-mail list; and a means which displays an icon for significant mail identification on a received-mail list picture as for the electronic mail including the character string for significant mail identification.
