PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF THE D-2-(6-METHOXY-2-NAPHTHYL)-PROPIONIC ACID

D-2-(6-Methoxy-2-naphthyl)-propionic acid I [R=H! were prepd. by resolution of d- and l-2-(5-halo-6-methoxy-2-naphthyl)propionic acids I[R=halo! with N-methyl-D-glucamine and then dehalogenation. Thus, 1- bromo-2-methoxynaphthalene was acetylated with AlCl-AlCl3 in 1,2- CH2ClCH2Cl and the product was treated with ClCH2-CO2Et, then hydrolyzed to give II. Oximation of II, followed by hydrolysis gave (±)-I[R=Br!,whichwasresolvedwith N-methyl-D-glucamine and the (+)- acid was dehalogenated with NaBH4-Pd/C to give I [R=H!. I or Naproxin is a known compd. having excellent antiinflammatory properties.
