<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus producing reformed gas and a method for producing reformed gas employing the apparatus capable of efficiently obtaining low-CO reformed gas from an arbitrary fuel including hydrocarbon, and an exhaust emission control system capable of efficiently purging NOx in exhaust gas on-board by using the low-CO reformed gas even under a low temperature condition. <P>SOLUTION: The apparatus producing reformed gas includes a pressurizer, a heater and a reformed catalyst. Water is guided to a supercritical or sub-critical state by pressing and heating a hydrocarbon-based fuel and the water. The low-CO reformed gas is produced by being reacted with the hydrocarbon-based fuel and supercritical water or subcritical water in the presence of the reformed catalyst. The exhaust emission control system can supply the low-CO reformed gas to a NOx adsorption/reduction catalyst when the exhaust gas temperature at the inlet of the NOx adsorption/reduction catalyst is 250°C or less and a stoichiometric region to a rich region. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
